Poem – Afraid To Love Written By Samantha James

Afraid To Love is a poem I wrote to express the fear of rejection, dating, and relationships we all sometimes feel. Love is about taking chances on someone who might be a perfect match and when we do not take the risk then we do not find that love.

Afraid To Love

He loved her; she could care less

He wanted her; she did not guess

He watched her; she had no clue

He was silent; it was easy to misconstrue

She was unlovable; so she thought

It was her he needed; it was her he sought

This was unheeded; it was ignorance he got

Out of the blue; He said hello

She saw it in his eyes; she knew

This was no lie; this was her que

She was nervous; knew not what to say

He was doomsday; there was more to the surface

He was her heartbreak; she was afraid

He knew not what to say; he was willingly to pay

He would take the cost; accept any lose

She was untrue; turned him down

He heard her adieu; it was an awful sound

This was goodbye; he knew not why

She was terrified; that is what she was

There was no guffaw; let’s clarify

She was a coward; the disastrously kind

It was not the season; love would not fly

It was most certainly goodbye: he knew not why

She should have given him a chance; alas, there was no room

This was not a romance; there was nothing to bloom.

  1. Sometimes we write as if we know how it will sound, how it will feel. But we don’t. We just write.
Sometimes we hope it will mean something to us, afraid to share lest we feel the world’s bite.
I hope you’re stronger, smarter, braver. Because I would like more, before you again take flight.

Every emotion we share touches someone. Thank you for sharing.
